It ain’t easy: the dirty secrets of successful sales
Everyone is an expert. At least, that’s how they’ll pitch it to you. When I started my first business, just learning what to do in order to grow a profitable sports business was hard enough. However, so much has changed in the last 10 years! Now you have to know digital marketing OVER traditional marketing. Which is dangerous.
Success sells
If you’ve been around digital courses at all, or if you’ve ever sat through a webinar or read a (boooringly long) sales page, then you know just how people use words to sell. But the words they use can also be manipulative & deceptive. They can trigger feelings & emotions that make you feel panicked that you might miss out! If you encountered these high-pressure sales tactics in another place – such as a car dealership – you would probably walk away. But when you’ve just spent an hour listening to someone else’s huge numbers of success & they’re showing you their secret formula then why WOULDN’T you buy right now?
BEWARE THE MARKETERS
There are some people out there who are good at selling themselves. Good at selling products. Good at business however? Not so much. Thankfully, not many are good at disguising their lack of experience. Most of the time, a deep breath & a good Google search will help you see through them & what they’re selling. They may seem very much like the expert they’re positioning themselves to be, but an expert doesn’t have to be much more than someone who has a little more experience than you do.
LEARN HOW TO BE LEGIT
I am not saying that there are not some great marketers & business owners out there who don’t have amazing integrity. But usually, those guys have been around for a while. Their reputation is known & you can easily find them. My point is: be honest. Be yourself. Don’t try to mimic the quick work & flashy success of those types of flashy marketers. Focus on your vision. Craft your brand. Take it one day at a time. You don’t have to do it all at once.
BUILD YOUR SUSTAINABLE PLATFORM
Start today with choosing your passion & how you like to connect with people. What do you have to share? If you’re not sure, ask yourself some basic questions such as
- Do I work best alone or with a partner?
- Am I more of an extrovert or introvert?
- What ways do I communicate best?
Take some time today to answer these questions & then ask yourself some more. The more you know about yourself, the sooner you’ll be successful in your business endeavors. You’ll be more likely to prevent burnout, you’ll know what kind of support system you need to surround yourself with, & how to build your platform around your strengths.
